Visa Change for Kids Likely to Boost Australian Housing Market

Starting July 1, a new visa framework will take effect in Australia allowing children from age six to apply for a student visa, subclass 500, regardless of their country of origin. Students’ parents are also able to apply for a more streamlined guardian visa. This is a significant departure from current policy which assesses immigration applications based on calculated risk.

The Dept. of Immigration says that the changes are designed to make applications simpler for genuine students and to “deliver a more targeted approach to immigration integrity.” The shift has been signaled by the property industry as positive news, potentially making Australia a much more attractive proposition for relocation from China as parents are much more likely to accompany younger students to study.
