Alibaba To Open First Australian Office This Year
Chinese conglomerate Alibaba revealed on Tuesday its plan to open its first Australian office in Melbourne before the end of the year. This is the latest push in the firm's globalisation strategy as founder and chairman Jack Ma seeks to serve 2 billion foreign customers by 2036. While a handful of Australian food and beverage brands have already established a significant presence on Alibaba's Tmall, the opening of an Australian office will likely facilitate Australian businesses' access to the affluent Chinese middle class in both countries.
