Record Number of Chinese Tourists in Australia

The number of Chinese tourists heading to Australia for short-term stays has hit a record high, recording a double-digit growth in the past year. 1.4 million Chinese tourists have flocked Down Under last year, surpassing Kiwis as the country’s top visitors. Relaxed visa requirements, simplified application processes and increased frequency in direct flights between China and Australia are the main reasons explaining this tourism boom. Forecasts from the Australia China Business Council show that Chinese tourists could potentially be worth $100 billion to the Australian economy by 2025.
