China Expert to Blaze a Trail in Foreign Affairs
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull is expected to formally appoint Frances Adamson as head of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade shortly after the July 2 election if victorious.
Observers say that Ms. Adamson quickly emerged as the favoured candidate to succeed incumbent Peter Varghese during government discussions thanks to her extensive experience in China.
As former ambassador to Beijing from 2011 to 2015, Ms Adamson's appointment will likely mark a significant milestone for Australia-China bilateral relationships.
