Australian Footy Makes a Foray Into the Chinese Market

As the Chinese government recently rolled out its Nationwide Fitness Plan (2016-2020), Australian footy club Port Adelaide is trying to capitalise on China's growing enthusiasm for fitness and sports.

Port's "China strategy" has proved very successful so far, with a steadily expanding viewership: almost 4 million people are reported to have watched the April 23 game between Port Adelaide and the Geelong Cats on CCTV. This major broadcasting deal with the China Central Television will not only help raising awareness in the game, but most importantly will likely lead to new sponsorship and commercial opportunities for Australian brands.
