Australian Agribusinesses Jump on China E-Commerce Bandwagon

Australian agribusinesses are exploring the potential of e-commerce as a channel to sell their products directly to China’s growing middle class.

Following the establishment of the China–Australia Free Trade Agreement, Australian agribusinesses now enjoy substantially lower tariffs to distribute their products in the Chinese market. The popularity and sophistication of Chinese e-commerce platforms make it even easier for local businesses to export fresh products (including seafood, pork and beef) to Chinese consumers.

In addition, incentives such as the Australia Post pilot program launched in partnership with Alibaba’s T-Mall will likely strengthen China’s position as Australia’s largest agribusiness export market.
