Monash Deal Aims to Boost Food Exports to China

Monash signs historic deal with China's largest food company COFCO

Monash University and China’s biggest food company – state-owned COFCO Corporation have secured an historic agreement that aims to help Australian food and beverage brands sell their products to China's booming middle-class.

The agreement will see Monash University's Food Innovation Centre enter into a strategic partnership with COFCO's Nutrition and Health Research Institute, who will provide their technical and regulatory expertise to Australian exporters willing to tap into the Chinese market.

Monash University Director, Food and Agriculture Innovation, Professor Nicolas Georges said: “Given that nine out of ten products fail in the fast moving consumer goods segment, helping companies to visualise what their new product looks like on the shelf and understanding shopper behaviour is key to de-risking innovation.”

Under the agreement, Australian firms will also be able to gain valuable market insights and sell on COFCO's e-commerce platform Womai.com.
