Chinese Knowledge of Australian Wine Boosts Tourism

The taste for Australian wine in China has considerably risen, with exports from Aussie winemakers recording a 51% jump in the past year. Chinese affluent consumers are now not only enjoying consuming Australian wines but have also developed a growing awareness of the different wine production regions in the country.

Increasing numbers of Chinese wine enthusiasts are travelling Down Under to visit cellar doors, bringing an overall boost to rural tourism. According to ABC, Victoria's Yarra Valley have for instance seen annual Asian tourist numbers grow by nearly 10% for the last three years.

"It's been growing, but we've especially noticeable over the last six months," De Bortoli Wine's Leanna De Bortoli said. The company recently employed a fluent Mandarin and Cantonese speaker to deliver tailored tastings to these new visitors.
