Cathay Pacific Commences Jumbo Service between Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport and Hong Kong

Almost one year to the day from its trial flight, Cathay Pacific Airways has officially operated its first freighter flight from Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport on 22 November. The 747-8F service left late at night, carrying over 50 tonnes of fresh Queensland products to Hong Kong.

This represents a great opportunity for local beef exporters and fruit producers to ship their goods to Asia with reduced transit times and costs.

Cathay Pacific Airways Southwest Pacific general manager Nelson Chin told Queensland Country Life last month that he was thrilled to see this project come true. “China buys more of Australia’s agricultural products than any other country and we are confident our new service will provide these businesses with a competitive advantage as the benefits of the new China-Australia Free Trade Agreement increase,” he said.

The international scheduled weekly freight service will initially depart from Sydney, then land in Melbourne, with a final stop in Toowoomba before the nine-hour direct flight to Hong Kong.
