Bega Cheese Brings Vegemite Back to Australia
Bega Cheese revealed on Thursday that they will buy a substantial piece of Mondelez International’s operations in Australia and New Zealand, bringing the iconic Vegemite brand back under Australian ownership as part of a $460 million deal.
“We have grown Bega Cheese from such humble beginnings to a business now being able to buy back a brand like Vegemite from a big multinational…it is not only being celebrated by our staff and our farmers, but by the whole country. That is a great thing’’, Bega Cheese executive chairman Barry Irvin told The Australian.
As part of the agreement, Bega Cheese will also get the right to use other well-known brands such as Knaft, Bonox or Cadbury.
