Leaping Bunny Certification - Shanghai Conference

Whilst China is the world’s biggest and fastest growing market for cosmetics, many international brands are still hesitant to enter due to mandatory animal tests as part of the product registration. For years, cosmetics has been the largest category of China’s booming Cross Border e-Commerce trade, greatly driven by Chinese consumers’ demand for cosmetics without animal testing that are currently unavailable in China. Yet, Cross Border e-Commerce only provides brands with a limited channel to reach Chinese consumers.

In 2015, changes introduced by the Chinese Government exempted domestically produced cosmetics from mandatory animal testing. This development potentially unlocked the door to the Chinese market for international cruelty-free brands. Following this development, Cruelty Free International has been working with KnudsenCRCand Beauty Valley (FengxianDistrict People’s Government) to remove any remaining barriers for international brands who wish to enter China via this route.

As a result of this work, Cruelty Free International, in cooperation with KnudsenCRC, is now launching the Leaping Bunny Pilot Project for China –a ground breaking collaborative project between Cruelty Free International, KnudsenCRCand Beauty Valley (FengxianDistrict People’s Government). The details of the Pilot Project will be presented at this invitation-only seminar.

Industry experts and representatives from Cruelty Free International will answer questions in relation to the Chinese market, as well as discussing the Leaping Bunny certification program and the potential role that it will play in ensuring that brands can enter the Chinese market without animal testing.
