UTS-SHU SILC Business School
Founded by Shanghai University (SU) and University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) in 1994, Sydney Institute of Language and Commerce (SILC) is the earliest Sino-foreign cooperative business school in China. In 2006, SILC received the quality accreditation by Shanghai Education Commission, followed by the higher education evaluation by Chinese Ministry of Education, the assessment by AUQA, and a quality evaluation by AACSB on business courses in bachelor degree programs. SILC boasts high-quality teaching staff. The majority of business faculty has acquired PhDs. English teachers have master’s degrees or international English teaching certificates. There are about 3,200 students currently enrolled at SILC. The number of graduates has reached over 10,000, of which 35% are employed by Fortune 500 companies and 33.5% have pursued further study in top 100 universities abroad. SILC maintains a long-term cooperation with educational organizations including British Council, IDP Education, and Colorado China Council to jointly host academic meetings and teacher training programs. Meanwhile, SILC works with higher education institutes in different countries to develop international programs and student exchange programs. Australian Studies Center is an important research organization established by SILC. The Center conducts studies in various fields, focusing on Australian policy studies and hot issues in Australia.
