In 1950, Fudan University in Shanghai, China established the High School Affiliated to Fudan University. In 2002, the High School Affiliated to Fudan University instituted a Chinese international division, which enrolls foreign students within a Chinese curriculum for eventual matriculation into Chinese universities. The Chinese division of FDIS provides a Chinese curriculum to Grade 10-12 foreign students.

In 2006, the High School Affiliated to Fudan University went on to establish an English-language international division, which enrolls foreign students (including students from Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao) within an international curriculum for matriculation abroad. The English division of FDIS consists of three sub-divisions, the Elementary School (grade 1-5), the Middle School (grades 6-8) and the High School (grades 9-12). Students are immersed in an all-English curriculum (with the exception of Chinese language class). FDIS is an accredited testing center for the SAT and the ACT. Presently, FDIS enrolls over 300 students hailing from 25 countries around the world.
