Event Recap: The Millennial Workforce: Driving Intergenerational Change

On the morning of Tuesday, 12 March, we were joined bright and early by the Shanghai business community for an exploration of the millennial workforce by CEO of Emergent, Holly Ransom.

Holly spoke on the growing significance of the Millennial generation in society and in business. Currently, millennials make up around 50% of the global population and are projected to make up approximately 75% of workforces by 2020.

The millennial generation's global importance is clear and is only growing.

Holly spoke on the values of this new generation and how their motivators differ drastically from and are more prominent than, those before them. 57% of millennial consumers are specifically favouring or boycotting a particular brand's products due to a social or political issue.

#

She spoke on how brands must increasingly recognise that these beliefs are key to what makes up millennials. Their trust in institutions is at a generational low, given their coming of age during the global financial crisis, and corporations which don't take steps to accommodate their worldview will fall behind.

A special thanks to Carman's for sponsoring the event's breakfast. Take a look at the pictures of the event below, courtesy of our cohosts the Australian Consulate General Shanghai.
