
Commonwealth Bank of Australia Shanghai Branch
The Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Shanghai is a foreign bank branch which has the capacity to provide corporate and institutional banking, structured asset finance, trade finance and transactional banking and global markets services support. Migrant & multicultural banking has also been set up at the branch to provide banking services to migrants and students in Australia. The Commonwealth Bank Group in China opened their first representative office in Beijing in 1994 and since then they have begun numerous operations, including:
-Shanghai Branch since March 2010, allowing CBA to improve its operational knowledge in terms of country management, customer knowledge, and relationships with other clients/institutions and regulators in China
-Life Insurance joint venture with Bank of Communication since 2010 – BoComm Life (37.5%). Its predecessor, China Life-CMG Life Assurance Company Limited, was found in 2000
-Investment in Qilu Bank (20%) since 2004 and Bank of Hangzhou (19.9%) since 2005
-Funds Management joint venture with Cinda Asset Management established in 2006 – First State Cinda (46%)
-Investments in 10 county banks (80% each, direct holding) since 2011 in Henan & Hebei Province.
