Largest ever exhibition of Australian Indigenous Art showcased in Nanjing, 20 April-20 May

As part of Imagine Australia - the year of Australian Culture in China - the Australian Consulate General in Shanghai is proud to be supporting the largest ever exhibition of Australian indigenous art to come to China. After the success of the exhibition in Shanghai, it has relocated to Nanjing will be on display from 20 April to 20 May 2011 at the Nanjing Art Museum.

The Exhibition, "Our Land - Our Body" is a collection of 65 selected works from the Warburton Arts Project created by the Ngaanyatjarra people from the Warburton Ranges Community in remote Western Australia. Established in 1989, the Warburton Arts Project is believed to be one of the largest collections of Indigenous art held by Indigenous people. Over the last two decades this unique collection has grown to include more than 700 paintings and is a valuable cross-generational record of cultural knowledge and stories which are being passed onto future generations.

Australian Indigenous visual art has rapidly evolved into one of the world's great contemporary movements in art. It provides a unique insight into the profound spiritual and family connections between Australia's Indigenous people and their country. It is that connection which is central to the Exhibition's title theme - "Our land - Our body".

This is a stunning collection of Australian indigenous art - on a scale that has not been seen before in China. It has been on display at Shanghai's most impressive gallery - the Shanghai Art Museum and is now on display in Nanjing, with displays already scheduled in Beijing and Xi'an and another possibly in Hangzhou.
