The Organization:
The Australia China Alumni Association (ACAA) is a not-for-profit
organization that
aims to connect and engage all alumni of Australian Universities
that are currently
based in China. It is presently supported by the Australian Federal
Government and 22 partner universities, and aims to be
self-sustaining in future with funding
generated primarily from corporate sponsorship and membership fees.

Position Description
The Director of Development (Shanghai) will report directly to the
ACAA Steering Committee's Executive Director, and work
cooperatively with counterpart in Beijing, and Guangzhou, to
contribute to the overall growth of the Association across
China.
The role will be primarily aimed at growing and maintaining the
ACAA's presence in Shanghai in a sustainable way and the incumbent
will also be expected to take a role in the development of the
association as a whole, including generating funding, increasing
the membership base, improving the profile of the association in
the community, and extending the association into other cities in
East China via volunteer committees.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Continued engagement of ACAA's existing membership base in
Shanghai and East China, and implementing strategies to increase
the number of
paying members in the region.
- Increasing the profile of the association in Shanghai and East
China, both in the community, in the media, and with potential
corporate sponsors.
- Organizing and hosting regular alumni events in Shanghai.
- Fostering and working with a volunteer events committee in
Shanghai.
- Working with existing university partners to engage with their
alumni in East China.
- Working with Australian University Alumni in East China to
identify and promote professional development and networking
opportunities.
- Identifying and engaging potential corporate sponsors.
- Working with HR firms and alumni to provide career advice, job
matching.
- Developing new relationships with Australian Universities not
yet involved with the ACAA.
- Maintaining and updating a comprehensive database of Alumni now
living in China, including identifying strategies for locating and
contacting alumni,
and improving the quality of data.
- Managing and generating content for the ACAA website, including
job information, event information and other useful resources.
- Undertaking basic accounting functions, including
record-keeping for finances related to events, memberships,
etc.
- Profiling successful alumni for the ACAA e-newsletter &
website.
- Ongoing liaison with allied organizations (Australian
Consulate-General in Shanghai, State Govt. Offices, CPA Australia,
key corporate partners, etc.).
Selection Criteria:
- Bachelor degree from an Australian university (highly
desired).
- Native English speaker with sound mandarin; or native mandarin
with close to native English
- Understanding of the Australian university environment
(essential)
- Minimum of one years professional work experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and take
initiative.
- Excellent computer skills including experience with Microsoft
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Access or similar database
software.
- Self motivated and success driven.
- Familiarity with Shanghai, and a minimum of one year living in
mainland China.
- Not for profit / Development experience an advantage
- Graphic design skills, and/or knowledge of Adobe Illustrator
will also be an advantage.
- Some experience with website content management.
Must be flexible to attend some evening and weekend
functions.
