The Australian Trade Commission (Austrade) is the Australian Government's official trade promotion and facilitation agency. Our commitment to China includes a network of 12 offices and a staff of more than 80 people.

Austrade Shanghai office is offering an exciting opportunity for a motivated and client-focused specialist in health, medical and biotech sectors to identify trade opportunities, conduct market research and support promotional activities for Australian clients.  We are seeking a local engaged position at the AOPL2 or AOPL 3 level depending on the qualifications and experiences.

The ideal candidate will have relevant tertiary qualifications, a minimum of 3 years experience in a related role, in-depth knowledge of trade and investment practices in China.  Excellent client/ customer relationship management skills, and developed business networking capability are a must.  A demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, excellent written and spoken English and a high level of computer literacy are further requirements for the position.

Duties

  • 1. Identify and capture opportunities to increase Australian exports and outward investment to the East China market by providing a wide range of services to Australian companies, to ensure the delivery of Austrade's KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) and revenue generation targets.
  • 2. Undertake market research, primarily in the health, medical and biotech sector, assess and compile company information, provide strategic advice to Australian companies seeking to develop business relationships, strategic alliances, technology transfers etc with Chinese companies and government agencies.
  • 3. Constantly develop new market contacts and networks, track the ongoing development of the commercial environment in health, medical and biotech sectors, and be able to relate this to the needs of Australian exporters.
  • 4. Efficiently manage changing workloads, potentially covering a variety of industries, large numbers of clients/customers, within internally and externally driven timeframes.
  • 5. Develop methods for promoting/identifying business opportunities for Australian clients in the nominated industry sectors, exercising sound judgement to promote Australian interests in a complex business environment.
  • 6. Organising trade visits, missions and arranging visit programs.
  • 7. Undertake a range of client service work independently.

Selection Criteria

  • 1. Recent commercially focused work experience in an international / multinational companies or foreign governmental organization context, preferably related to the health, medical and biotech sectors.
  • 2. Good understanding of International Trade, preferably on Australia's export and investment capability, export marketing principles and practices relevant to the Chinese market and a track record of achievement in export facilitation.
  • 3. High level of knowledge and skills in dealing with the issues of the Chinese market especially those that apply to East China. Proven ability to provide practical and strategic advice to Australian businesses exporting/operating in this complex environment.
  • 4. Ability to manage conflicting work priorities and deadlines independently with limited supervision. Able to work under pressure.
  • 5. Extensive understanding of the needs and difficulties confronting exporters doing business in China. Demonstrate good analytical and problem solving skills, as well as good presentation and inter-personal skills.
  • 6. Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively in English and Chinese (minimum in Mandarin) with Australian/Chinese companies both written and spoken. Experience in using computer software solutions for business activities. Good knowledge of Information Age and ability to implement Information Age related tasks.
  • 7. Good inter-personal skill as well as good team work spirit.
