AustCham Shanghai offered members an exclusive opportunity to visit the Shanghai World Expo 2010 site on Tuesday 9th March.  AustCham Shanghai was able to host members as part of its Associate Partnership with Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and the Australian Pavilion.

The tour gave members a unique insight into how they can benefit from and contribute to the Expo that will attract over 70 million people between the months of May and October 2010.

Members were given an oversight of operations at the Expo Bureau where host, Australian Pavilion Director, Peter Sams spoke about the evolution and workings of the site since his arrival in Shanghai in 2008.

In chilly weather members toured the Pudong side of the expo area, stopping to admire the imposing China Pavilion.

They were impressed by the wide array of approaches and architectural styles presented by almost 200 participating countries.

The Australian Pavilion loomed out of the snow in impressive style. The Pavilion Director Peter Sams is understandably proud of the pavilion being one of the first to be completed.

Members were able to see the inner workings of the Australian Pavilion which has the capacity to host up to 40,000 visitors per day or a total of seven million people during the six months of Expo.

The internal fit out of the pavilion is almost complete with workers putting the finishing touches to the public and VIP areas.

In addition to public visitors, a business program coordinated by DFAT will see the pavilion hosting 260 invitation-only events showcasing Australia and Australian innovation to the world. Members wishing to register their involvement in a particular event should contact the organising agency. AustCham Shanghai will also assist members by putting them in touch with agencies or recommending industry related participants to those agencies where possible.

During the Expo period AustCham Shanghai will be hosting and partnering a number of events at the pavilion.  The AustCham Shanghai business guide will highlight member businesses to Australian, International and Chinese VIP guests at the pavilion as well as all delegations and guests at AustCham Shanghai events this year.
