AustCham Shanghai Executive Director Interim Position

 

THE OPPORTUNITY
AustCham Shanghai seeks a suitably qualified and experienced, exceptional individual to lead the organization full-time as interim Executive Director for a six-to-seven-month period in 2010. This rewarding and demanding opportunity will be available in March 2010 while the current Executive Director takes maternity leave
.
During this period of interim appointment in 2010, the strong annual events calendar includes partnering with the Australian Pavilion for events at World Expo Shanghai, presentation of the Great Australian Ball XV, a major annual Shanghai charity event, and preparation for the Australia-China Business Awards 2010 to be held in Shanghai for the first time.

THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR ROLE
The full-time Executive Director, working flexible and often extended hours, serves as a voting Director on the AustCham Shanghai Board of Directors, reporting directly to the Chair. This challenging role encompasses all aspects of managing the permanent full-time Secretariat and its strong professional team of seven, delivering exceptional benefits and membership value year-round to over 300 active corporate members.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS ROLE

  • provide strong leadership for AustCham Shanghai in a demanding 2010
  • represent AustCham Shanghai membership interests proactively and effectively
  • support the work of voluntary Board Directors as leaders in Australia-China business, constructively contributing to AustCham Shanghai's optimum strategic positioning of membership interests
  • liaise with government authorities and organizations both Chinese and Australian, with senior corporate executives, with peer-group organizations, with all levels of membership and the Australia-China business and local communities
  • maintain ongoing delivery of positive outcomes against the AustCham-Shanghai strategic objectives and Mission
  • identify challenges in the current business environment in Shanghai
  • monitor regulatory compliance and governance issues impacting on AustCham Shanghai
  • apply established AustCham Shanghai values and constitutional guidelines soundly in all decision-making, especially regarding competing membership interests
  • identify and initiate new resource-building opportunities ongoing
  • demonstrate a high standard of personal ethical responsibility in the work environment, encouraging high morale, professionalism and best practice at all times equitably across the organization
