Your Donations Help - The Renewal Center Story
Great things are unfolding at the Renewal Center, thanks to AustCham Shanghai members' generous support.
The Renewal Center helps people who have experienced homelessness in Shanghai find support, employment and permanent homes.
The center offers a full scope of programs, from supporting those currently on the streets with food, clothing, meals, medical care and basic legal assistance to a permanent path off the street through residency, employment assistance, counseling and mentoring, and long-term housing support.
Established in 2008 in Shanghai, the center currently welcomes around 70-80 guests weekly for basic services of showers and laundry.
Today we are pleased to announce that your donations in the live auction, silent auction and raffle during last year's Great Australian Ball have helped the Renewal Center purchase a brand new van that will be providing a shuttle service from downtown to the Renewal Center's drop-in center located in Minhang district.
Our goal is to begin a shuttle service from the city center to our Minhang drop-in center for our elderly and disabled friends on the streets. We've already begun piloting this service, and our drop-in center manager is in driver's education to eventually serve as an additional driver for the program. We are so thankful for our friends from AustCham Shanghai for providing this very useful tool to expand our reach in Shanghai!

Known as "Auto Renewal", the van is used daily for hauling clothing donations and food to the drop-in center for distribution to homeless people, taking trips to hospitals, transporting volunteers from the subway and meaningful weekend trips for participants of the Renewal Center's employment program.
AustCham Shanghai runs an active Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program and annually donates to nominated charitable organisations like the Renewal Center.
