Winning the
Wallets of Today's Chinese Consumers - A look at consumer buying
references
Alan MacCharles, Partner, Deloitte
|
|
| |

|
Understanding consumer market
dynamics and positioning ahead of emerging trends is crucial for
consumer brands and retailers to shape their business growth
strategy. In China, Deloitte's recent consumer research
suggests:
* Increased consumer sophistication with 'Value-for-Money' becoming
the key purchasing criterion in Tier One and Two cities. It is
expected to supplant 'Quality' as the top decision criterion for
consumers in China's Tier Three and Four cities.
* A high portion of consumers with proven purchasing power are
willing to experiment with new premium brands. Many brand
'relationships' with their customers are weak and opportunities for
new entrants remain.
* Despite the growing importance of 'Sustainability', Chinese
consumers are unwilling to pay for abstract environmental
concepts.
Understanding how these (and other) consumer trends will play out
is a crucial input to adapting your strategy for long term success.

ADEN Services' approach
to CSR
|
 |
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a growing trend among
all business sectors with the focus not only on profit but also on
the contribution to society and environment. Ethical trading is on
the increase, with consumers preferring to buy from companies with
strong ethical and CSR polices.
ADEN Services has many CSR policies and shows its social
commitment across many sectors. In its Remote Site Projects, ADEN
Services consider the surrounding areas and the local population.
The company's standard policy is to employ 95 per cent local staff
while attempting to also procure all project operation supplies
locally. Through special systems of waste management, waste
separation and social hygiene training, the company is actively
involved in sustainable development and nature protection programs.
ADEN Services is also participating by building schools for local
children that would normally not have the chance to obtain an
education and donating and sponsoring local community organisations
to help develop local economies.
